After several dengue patients from the rural parts of Pune and Satara landed in the hospital, the doctors claimed that the situation was caused by the circulation of the type-2 dengue virus, DENV-2. According to the experts, DENV-2 does not have a specific symptom, but the condition of the patient worsens very quickly. 

Dr. Rajesh Gadia, Senior physician, KEM, stated that all the patients were in the age group of 20-40 years, without any co-morbidities. The patients experienced a severe lung complication called acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) within five to six days of infection. He added that such a severe condition is only present in individuals infected with the type-2 dengue virus.
